P. Chidambaram Will Spend Time In The Same Jail Where His Son Spent

Former Union minister P Chidambaram has been lodged at the same Jail No. 7 at Tihar where his son Karti Chidambaram spent 23 days last year.
Jail No. 7 of Tihar usually houses those accused in Enforcement Directorate cases. Karti Chidambaram, too, had spent weeks in the same jail in the same INX Media case in which his father has now been imprisoned.
A Delhi court Thursday sent former finance minister P Chidambaram to Tihar jail in the INX Media corruption case. Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who is being probed by the ED in connection with the AgustaWestland and a bank fraud case, is also lodged at this jail.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent Chidambaram to 14-day judicial custody till September 19. The court allowed him to carry his medicines to jail. On Thursday, veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram was put behind the bars of Tihar, after a CBI court sent him on 14-judicial custody. Earlier, the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail application.
P Chidambaram, who was accompanied by police personnel in the bus, was put in a special cell in Asia’s biggest prison complex as per the orders of the CBI court.
As those assembled in his court waited with bated breath for the order after a 30-minute hearing, special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar sent Chidambaram to judicial custody till September 19 in the corruption case filed by the CBI linked to the INX Media. The judge pronounced the order an hour after the brief hearing concluded.
Chidambaram, 73, was produced before a Delhi court on Thursday after the expiry of his 2-day CBI custody in the case.
Chidambaram’s 15-day CBI custody, ordered by the special court in five spells, which started after his arrest on August 21 night, ends today.
