Seems like there is something holdin’ Shawn back: his health. On Saturday, the 21-year-old pop singer cancelled a performance in Brazil for he is suffering from laryngitis and a sinus infection. Though Mendes already has tour dates scheduled throughout December, he said that he was advised by medical professionals to cancel the show and take a rest.

Mendes explained, “It breaks my heart to do this but my doctors told me I can not perform tonight or it would risk long term damage to my voice.”

The pop star then apologized to his fans and then stated that he would “make it up” to them.

“I love you all so much and apologize from the bottom of my heart as I wish I could be there on stage tonight,” Mendes shared. He added, “I promise I will make it up to you next time I’m back in South America.”

In a follow-up tweet, the pop singer added: “I’m so sorry.”

Fortunately, Shawn has quite understanding fans, who gave their humble comments encouraging the singer to put his health first. One fan who had waited in line for his São Paulo concert wrote, “I want you to know that it’s okay, it happens and we still love you the same!” Another fan assured Shawn that he had nothing to apologize for and added, “You are human, too. You get sick. You deserve a day off, rest your vocal cords. We love you endlessly and support any decisions you make. Take care of yourself please. ❤️”

Mendes had protested the climate change in the middle of his Sao Paulo concert earlier on Friday. Just some hours before announcing the concert cancellation, the ‘Treat You Better’ pop singer posted on Instagram, “Sao Paulo you are unbelievable. Magical & strong!!! See you again tonight.”

As of Saturday afternoon, Shawn is still scheduled to perform shows in Rio and two in Buenos Aires, Argentina next week. He is then set to move towards Chile, Peru and Mexico for more concerts before he wraps up his tour before Christmas. We hope Shawn feels better soon. It’s clear that he has the support of his fans at every turn.
